The Farmer is a character in The Precursor Legacy, with a cameo in Daxter. He is a yakow stockman and rice paddy farmer, living at the northernmost end of Sandover Village near Fire Canyon and Forbidden Jungle. An elderly man, he is known to be stubborn and lazy.
Along with his fellow villagers, the Farmer was a victim of increasing lurker aggression as a result of their movement south in search of Precursor artifacts and eco.
Providing yakow dairy, the Farmer is one of the sources of the village's dietary mainstays, together with fish provided by the Fisherman.
History[]

Jak speaking with the Farmer.
Early in the game, lurkers attempted to steal the Farmer's yakows, scaring them out of their pen. After fruitlessly attempting to corral them, the Farmer tasked Jak and Daxter with the mission "Herd the yakows into their pen" in exchange for a power cell. The Farmer made mention of a particular yakow named Bessie, and could also be heard worrying about bringing in the crops before the seasonal June bugs arrive.[2]
Characteristics[]

Concept art of the Farmer.
The Farmer is an elderly human of gaunt build, with fair skin and grayed hair. Due to his age, he is incapable of too much physical exertion and is tired often. As a result, he has a reputation as stubborn and lazy,[3][4] though he does seem to have an otherwise agreeable personality. He's often seen sitting due to his "tired bones", and is normally asleep (expressing joy at the prospect of doing so peacefully once Jak and Daxter corralled his yakows).
The Farmer wears a large, conical straw hat, topped with a tall, red braid wrapped around his long, upward-sticking hair. He also dons an imperial-style mustache, with unkempt free-floating eyebrows nearly obscuring his wrinkled eyelids, which are always shut. With a large bundle of hay strapped to his back, he depends upon a wooden cane to stand, and presumably to shepherd his livestock given its cloth-wrapped handles at either end.

The Farmer's farm.
The Farmer's farm lies on a stretch of beach at the northernmost end of Sandover Village. It begins with his hut, neighboring the Birdwatcher's and situated in front of the cliffs leading to Fire Canyon, inside of which several bales of hay can be found. The yakow pen, delimited by a rickety wooden fence, is placed between his hut and the tiered rice paddies that take up the remaining back half of his land. His yakows graze on the beach, which is littered with beachgrass[5] and flowering cattails.[6]
Behind the scenes[]

The Farmer from Daxter.
The Farmer cameos in the spin-off game Daxter, during a quicktime event-based minigame called dream mode, wherein he portrays "Morpheus" from the movie The Matrix, opposite his trainee, Daxter, who dreams himself to be "Neo".
The non-canon "Where Are They Now?" section of The Official Jak 3 Guide touches upon the Farmer's life after The Precursor Legacy. Real name Zeb, he supposedly opened a drive-thru dairy with the flagship product "Sleeping Farmer Yakow Milk", passing away peacefully in his sleep only a few years after the events of the game.[7]
