The pod spider is an enemy in Jak 3. They appear in the Metal Head nest, and once appeared in South Haven Forest during the mission "Kill dark plants in forest", as well as having made a brief appearance in the oasis for one side mission.
Characteristics[]
The pod spider is an eight-legged metal head with a tall bright orange pod on its back. Exactly what purpose it serves remains unclear. They are normally quite small, although some of the larger pod spider's pods can reach the physical height and length of the Sand Shark.[1]
Pod spiders always appear in large swarms by appearing out from the ground. If the player is inside a vehicle, then they will attempt to latch on to it and attack the driver, but will simply bite at Jak if on foot.
Combat[]
The pod spider relies on strength in numbers, and will swarm their target if they are not swiftly dealt with. If enough pod spiders are killed, more will spawn from the ground. Pod spiders are not incredibly fast, but in the locations where they appear, they will be able to appear anywhere on ground level. Jump to higher ground or use other methods to stay in the air as much as possible.
When driving a vehicle or using the JET-Board, simply plow through them, although those that can latch on will be able to cause damage. When on foot, the ideal weapons are either the Needle Lazer, or Wave Concussor.
